Thanks to you: £401,116 to help people in Malawi
IN the last few days there’s been an amazing surge of interest in our charity appeal which has brought the total to more than £400,000.
The excitement lasted until the final day as the total stood nearer £385,000. First Boudiwjn Poelmann — the chairman of Novamedia/Postcode Lotteries and City A.M. chairman — and then City A.M. founders Jens Torpe and Lawson Muncaster topped up the donations to take the total from to £401,116.
As the clock ticked by these past few days the appeal’s funds were also swelled by a £5,000 personal donation from an RBC Capital Markets managing director and by a number of other massively generous contributors. Also earlier in the week we had the proceeds from our online auction.
When some of us sat down to a dinner hosted by HRH Princess Anne a few weeks ago, we had hoped that we might achieve a sizeable amount from our appeal — but, given it was our first ever such venture, we did not truly know what to hope for.
Certainly the results have surpassed all expectations.
Thanks to all who contributed and to DfID, the government department which is matching all personal contributions pound by pound.
Crucially, contributions will be accepted and matched by DfID up to 21 February.
Please feel free to contribute over the next few weeks if you can.
