Consumers set to use tablets for 72pc of online purchases by 2018
Tablets are set to dominate UK mobile online shopping this year as order volumes on the larger screened devices soar to double that of smartphones.
Smartphones will account for just £4.65bn of online retail sales in 2014, year-on-year growth of 43.2 per cent. Tablet online retail sales will soar 79.3 per cent to £9.28bn, according to EMarketer.
“Tablets, in particular, offer a larger and more tactile interface for online shopping, which is why we’re seeing particularly fast growth in tablet commerce,” says EMarketer analyst Bill Fisher.
Overall sales, including tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices, will grow 64.8 per cent this year to £14.1bn in the UK, accounting for 27 per cent of total online retail sales.
EMarketer that sales will soar to more than £29bn by 2018, 38 per cent of total online retail sales, with tablets dominating 72 per cent of those sales.
