SVG chairman Ferguson leaves after 28 years
SVG Capital chairman Nicholas Ferguson is leaving the private equity group at the end of the year, after 28 years with the firm.
Ferguson became a director at the company’s previous incarnation, Schroder Ventures, in 1984 and was chairman when it was spun out into SVG in 1996.
A prominent figure in the private equity industry, Ferguson is also senior non-executive director at BSkyB.
He spoke out in favour of higher capital gains tax for dealmakers in 2007, claiming buyout firms were often paying less tax than their cleaners.
Stephen Duckett, managing director at Hellman & Friedman, will replace Ferguson on the board.
SVG non-execs Denis Raeburn and Francis Finlay are also retiring at the firm’s shareholder meeting on 23 March.
FTSE 250-listed SVG mainly invests in funds managed by Permira, though it has diversified in recent months.
