Suspected shoplifter falls from second-floor window of Royal Exchange
A man suspected of shoplifting has fallen from a second floor window in the Royal Exchange, near the Bank of England, today.
City of London police were called to a shop on Gracechurch Street at 10:30am today after a member of the public called to report the suspected shoplifting.
Officers were on the scene when the man, who has not been identified, was seen to fall from the window onto the pavement of Threadneedle Street below. It is thought he threw a chair out of the window before trying to climb onto the ledge of the building.
London Ambulance Service attended and the man has been taken to hospital suffering from suspected head injuries.

City of London police said the Professional Standards Department and the Independent Police Complaints Commission had been informed.
Eyewitnesses posted pictures of the aftermath on Twitter, with some suggesting the incident could be "potentially life-threatening" to the suspect.
