LWW – The City Edition: A New watchmaking tradition begins at the Royal Exchange
London Watch Week and City AM have joined forces to bring an inaugural City destination event: LWW – The City Edition.
Since almost the beginning of time, or at least since it’s been so beautifully and elegantly measured, watches and the City have gone hand in hand. You only have to look to the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and those immortal City brands, Winegartens and J.W. Benson, to see that.
London Watch Week is the UK’s premier destination for watch collectors, enthusiasts, and the global horological community. Taking place over several days in June, the event brings together leading watchmakers, collectors and industry voices for a programme of events.
Following the success of the marquee summer Mayfair show, London Watch Week and City AM have joined forces to bring an inaugural City destination event: LWW – The City Edition.
The event will take place against the iconic backdrop of the Royal Exchange, in the heart of the City of London, opposite the Bank of England. For one day only on Wednesday the 18th of November, part of the historic Grade I-listed Royal Exchange will be taken over by what promises to be the start of a new City tradition.
Rupert Hargreaves, City AM’s COO, said: “Partnering with London Watch Week for ‘The City Edition’ is a natural fit for City AM. We’re excited to bring together exceptional horological craftsmanship and the City’s thriving community of collectors in such a historic setting this November.”
Running from day into evening at the height of the Square Mile’s Christmas festivities, this curated watch and luxury showcase, ticketed by day and invite-only by night, invites you to enjoy cocktails in the Engel Bar on the mezzanine level all the while perusing some of the world’s most exciting and iconic names in watchmaking in a stunning setting.
In addition to the main showcase event at Engel Bar, we will partner with several boutiques in the Royal Exchange, which will offer our guests premium access throughout the day and evening.
Browse a Bremont, consider a Christopher Ward, get up close and personal with a NOMOS Glashütte and try a Ciga Design for size. Fall in love with a new brand or simply renew old acquaintances, for there is nothing, and I mean nothing, like experiencing these glorious timepieces in person.
Sarah Baumann, Christopher Ward COO, said: “We’re delighted to be exhibiting at London Watch Week: The City Edition and look forward to meeting collectors and watch enthusiasts from across London and beyond. With our Mayfair showroom approaching its first anniversary – and newly refurbished for the occasion – we’re excited to welcome back familiar faces, meet plenty of new ones, and give visitors the chance to discover some of our latest launches, as well as a few exciting new watches still to come.”
Only with your own eyes, not via a screen, can you see the true beauty of a guilloché dial or admire the craftwork of the hands that made it: so close you can hear the tick, smell the hand-stitched leather, cradle the case or feel the cold steel bracelet as it warms against your skin.
If that is not enough to set your ticker racing, Fortnum & Mason and Minka Jewels are offering further delights, and Jean Rousseau will have live craftsmanship demonstrations at the event.
Lucy Mackenzie-Cheesewright, co-founder of London Watch Week, said: “From the day we set out with London Watch Week, we always wanted to have a ‘winter warmer’ edition. Creating something with City AM, the heartbeat of the City at the iconic Royal Exchange, is just the perfect fit, and we can’t wait.”
Whether you’re a watch addict, a hopeful optimist, a wishful window shopper, or simply seeking inspiration and the ultimate Christmas gift ideas, make time to give someone the gift of time at LWW – The City Edition. It will truly give you a day to remember, and if you are lucky, something to remember it by.
