Stars set to breed with Arc heroine
CHAMPION race horse Sea The Stars will breed with fellow Prix de I’Arc de Triomphe winner Zarkava “at the earliest opportunity” in a bid to create a new wonderhorse.
The three-year-old colt, who claimed a unique Arc, Derby and 2,000 Guineas treble this year, is set to generate annual fees of around £10m from his breeding career at Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud in County Kildare.
There, he will meet the Aga Khan’s unbeaten filly Zarkava, whose victory in the 2008 Arc completed a famous clean sweep for the French thoroughbred. “I look forward to the earliest opportunity to send my unbeaten champion Zarkava to Sea The Stars,” the Aga Khan explained.
“I believe the last two Arc winners were made for each other both in terms of ability, temperament and conformation. The best needs to be bred to the best.”
Sea The Stars’ trainer John Oxx added: “It’s nice that he has been found a home and the sooner we can get him out in the paddock the better.”
Ladbrokes are already offering odds of 100-1 that the offspring of the pair wins the 2014 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and 4-1 for Sea The Stars to sire a Classic winner in his first crop.
