CINEMA: STRAW DOGS
Also out: Straw Dogs – an unsatisfactory update of the 1971 original (that starred Dustin Hoffman) with eye-candy Kate Bosworth and James Marsden. City A.M.’s Stevie Martin’s verdict is that “it’s a fair enough thriller, but there’s no getting away from the fact the director has taken a classic and made it slightly less interesting. You’d still be better off renting the original.”
HEART OF DARKNESS OPERA
Joseph Conrad’s classic novella of obsession and brutality in the Congo is brought to life in this chamber opera premiere. With an unusual score by young British composer, Tarik O’Regan, this contemporary interpretation is proving a highlight of the Linbury Season.
