Shortlist narrows for BBC chairmanship
The shortlist for the new BBC chairmanship has narrowed to around six, with the government aiming to name the successful candidate early next year.
Former Prudential chairman and Bank of England deputy governor Sir David Clementi, who was one of the architects of the new system under which the position has been created, is reported to be among the candidates.
In March this year, he recommended that the BBC Trust be scrapped and regulation duties be passed on to Ofcom.

John Makinson, the chairman of book publisher Penguin Random House, is also in the running, Sky News reported.
And he is reportedly joined by former BBC journalist Roger Parry, Charities Commission chair William Shawcross and former Emap chief executive Sir David Arculus. At least one other unnamed individual is thought to be on the shortlist.

BBC Trust chair Rona Fairhead was expected to take on the position on the newly-created BBC board – which is being introduced next April under government reforms set out in a new royal charter – automatically.
But she announced her resignation after Prime Minister Theresa May ordered a re-run of the appointment process.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) kicked off the BBC chair appointment process in October.
The DCMS declined to comment. The BBC has been asked for comment.
