Scottish Power joins Big Six’s price cut round
SCOTTISH Power has announced a 3.3 per cent cut on standard dual fuel tariffs which is expected to save customers £54 a year.
The energy supplier joined other Big Six firms who have promised tariff cuts after the government slashed green levies last month. The reductions start later this month.
But the price cut, which comes after Scottish Power hiked prices by 8.6 per cent in December, will not apply to customers on fixed rate tariffs as Scottish Power says they are already paying less than the newly reduced fee.
British Gas and SSE have agreed to cut the price of power for all customers, whatever their tariff. SSE will reduce bills by around four per cent from the start of April and British Gas cut bills by 3.2 per cent from New Year’s Day.
EDF and E.On are also cutting prices only for those on standard, or variable, rates, while Npower has said it is still reviewing its prices, and has promised to freeze any more hikes until 2015.
Scottish Power said it would try to avoid further price rises in 2014, but this depended on whether there are increases in wholesale energy prices.
