Scottish government calls for a probe into the collapse of airline Flyglobespan
THE SCOTTISH government yesterday upped its demands for an investigation into the collapse of Flyglobespan as it emerged credit card firm E-clear withheld around £35m of payments to the Scots airline.
Scotland’s first minister Alex Salmond has called for a police probe into E-clear payment methods after it emerged Flyglobespan collapsed last week with debts of £5m.
The Scottish finance secretary John Swinney said: “This is money that should have been in Globespan’s account ensuring the company could continue to do business.”
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the administrators, said it had asked “that the funds held by E-clear be placed in a joint account immediately”. Joint administrator and partner at PwC Scotland Bruce Cartwright added: “We believe our proposal provides a commercial and transparent approach and will help to address the concerns of Globespan creditors.
“It will also go some way to allowing the parties to demonstrate that they are approaching this matter in a cooperative manner.”
