Scott can use hurt to inspire him

YESTERDAY’S golf was magnificent. Like the winner Ernie Els, I felt really sorry for Adam Scott – he couldn’t have done much more but there’s no way his chance of winning a Major has gone.
He’s still a young man and this will hurt but it could yet make him stronger. Scott will know he played well enough to win the Open, and that’s what he has to take out of it. I certainly think he’ll contend several more.
For Ernie, that was up there with his best wins. He spent a long time thinking ‘will I ever win another one?’ and he’d come close, but to finally win again was magnificent. Royal Lytham and St Annes is one of the hardest courses in the world, and he played it beautifully.
You have to remember Ernie has been one of the greatest golfers of all time. His swing is probably the easiest ever on the eye. He’s got a magnificent temperament and everyone loves him – myself included. I can’t help but feel sorry for Scott but it was Ernie’s day.
