Schumacher may quit, warns F1 boss Ecclestone
FORMULA One boss Bernie Ecclestone says he doubts that seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will stay in the sport if he continues to under-perform for his Mercedes team.
Schumacher finished Sunday’s British Grand Prix in ninth place and he lies in the same spot in the standings with 36 points – less than half the tally of team-mate Nico Rosberg.
“If Schumacher doesn’t perform I doubt whether he will want to stay,” said Ecclestone, adding that “he is obviously fit, motivated and talented but the car hasn’t been up to him.”
Ecclestone tips fourth-placed Sebastian Vettel to win the championship and he believes that his Red Bull Racing team “deserve to win”.
“Red Bull bought a team that was no good, it’s not like they bought Ferrari,” said Ecclestone.
He also gave praise to Vettel’s team mate Mark Webber who clinched a third victory of
the season at Silverstone.
“Mark has done a good job,” said Ecclestone, adding: “I would never have believed it at the beginning of this year if somebody had said to me he is going to do this.”
