Sainsbury’s boss Mike Coupe celebrates a Sport Relief windfall with David Walliams and Eastenders star Maddy Hill as the grocery giant raises more than £7m for charity this year
Sainsbury's boss Mike Coupe must be feeling pretty confident about his store's competitive streak.
A week after revealing strong results, the superstore boss got together with soap opera stars to celebrate the success of Sainsbury's Sport Relief Games.
This year, the grocery giant has raised over £7m in aid of Sport Relief, culminating in a series fitness challenges up and down the country over the weekend.
TV funny man David Walliams and Maddy Hill, who plays Nancy Carter in Eastenders, joined Coupe and Comic Relief chief Kevin Cahill to celebrate the work the firm has done for the charity since 1999.
Thanks to the support of colleagues and customers throughout the year, Sainsbury’s raised £7,068,681 for this year’s Sport Relief campaign, taking the total raised since the partnership with Comic Relief began to over £104m.
The announcement also comes after Sainsbury's proudly trumpeted the fact it had maintained market share at a time when Tesco, Morrisons and Asda have all been losing ground to German retailers Lidl and Aldi.
No prizes for guessing who bought the celebratory drinks at the weekend.
