Sainsbury’s to slash 500 jobs
SAINSBURY’S is to cut 500 head office jobs as part of a plan set out by its new chief executive to save hundreds of millions of pounds in costs.
Mike Coupe pledged in November to save £500m over the next three years in order to fund a £150m price offensive against its retail rivals.
The company said it will streamline its central divisions and “bring its supermarkets and convenience businesses together”, affecting around 500 roles.
The move comes a week after Tesco announced it will close its Cheshunt headquarters as well as 43 stores. Morrisons and Asda have also shed thousands of jobs as supermarkets come under increasing pressure.
