Rolls-Royce announces recall of just one of its Ghost models
Rolls-Royce has become the latest car manufacturer to issue a recall – of one car.
The news comes after Volkswagen said it was recalling 8.5m vehicles across Europe and believes 11m cars worldwide contain software used to cheat emissions tests.
The car in question is a Rolls-Royce Ghost, which sells for over £200,000, manufactured on 23 January 2014. The vehicle has thorax air bags fitted to both front seats that may fail to meet the side impact performance requirements demanded by regulators.
In the event of a vehicle crash, the airbags may increase the risk of injury to the front seat passengers, the company said. It is at least the joint smallest recall in history.
While Rolls-Royce, which is owned by BMW, has said it will replace the airbag modules free of charge, the owner faces an inconvenient wait while the problem is remedied.
The car with the fault had left its factory in Goodwood, East Sussex in January 2014, according to the Financial Times, which first reported the story, but its North American owner had not yet taken delivery.
