Returning Prior ready to answer England’s opening conundrum
ENGLAND Ashes hero Matt Prior believes with a weight of extra experience behind him he is now ready to accept the challenge of opening the batting at the upcoming World Cup.
The Sussex gloveman was chosen in place of Steven Davies in Andy Flower’s 15-man squad for the tournament which starts next month.
Prior, the regular Test wicketkeeper, has not played limited overs cricket for his country since 2008 but the 28-year-old, who retained his position at the top of the order in today’s third ODI against Australia in Hobart, believes he is now better equipped to handle the demands of opening and keeping wicket.
“I think my batting has come along a huge amount,” he said. “I think I’m a very different player to the guy that opened in one-day cricket however many years ago.
“Maybe I lacked experience then to go on and make the big scores.”
