Six new restaurants opening in the City this summer
The sun is out, we’ve spotted some shorts in Canary Wharf and rose at lunchtime is starting to sound like an agreeable diversion; summer’s here.
And with that most delightful of seasons comes a new wave of bars and restaurants in the City for us to spend our pocket money in.
As you may know, Cornhill’s late-night booze bazaar Abacus has closed and is to be reborn into a loftier version of itself, replete with trendy meat spits and a new name – The Forge.
This will reportedly be with us at the start of July. But the artist formerly known as Abacus is not alone.
Here’s our pick of new restaurants and bars coming to a City corner near you soon.
1. Ask For Janice
We’ve cheated with this one – it’s already open, but only just. It’s on the Farringdon side of the City on Long Lane and has Mark Hix’s protege James Browne as executive chef.
2. La Tagliata
This new Italian kitchen is opening up on 14 July on Sandy’s Row up towards Shoreditch. The website isn’t giving much away but the name translates as “slice of beef” so we’re guessing they’re big on bovine.
3. Silk and Grain
A few doors down from The Forge on Cornhill you’ll find this brand spanking new cocktail bar-cum-restaurant. Also opening in July.
4. Roka Aldwych
Roka’s expansion from its Charlotte St flagship has gone down a treat in Canary Wharf and now the Japanese robatayaki restaurant is coming to Aldwych – Aldersgate Street to be precise.
5. Caterina55
This all-day Italian restaurant opening at 5 Moor Lane, Moorgate will specialise in north east Italy's Ligurian cooking.
6. Scarpetta
This authentic Italian restaurant is due to open on 23 June on Cannon Street -its USP is making all of its fresh pasta on site. Don't get much fresher than that…
