Raytheon in radar development
Raytheon, the American defence company, has been approached by the National Air Traffic Services (Nats), to design a system which will allow radars to see through wind farm interference. The project will cost £5m, and is expected to be funded by the wind energy industry. The number of radar blackouts is increasing as the number of wind farms goes up, a particular concern for the RAF. It says that enemy bombers or other aircraft could hide behind interference from offshore wind farms and approach Britain undetected.
