Rangers on track to relocate to £10bn site of proposed HS2 link
QUEENS Park Rangers chiefs have confirmed that they are in talks to swap Loftus Road for a new 40,000-seater stadium at nearby Old Oak Common.
The arena would be part of a £10bn plan to transform 100 acres of industrial land into office and residential property, as well as incorporating the proposed HS2 rail link to Birmingham.
“We are looking at a number of potential options for a new stadium and believe that Old Oak could provide one possible solution,” Rangers said.
“We have met with representatives of the Greater London Authority and the supporting local authorities to discuss whether a football stadium could be incorporated into any plan that comes forward for this site.”
Loftus Road only holds 18,500 fans and chairman Tony Fernandes has been eager to relocate to a larger venue since his consortium bought the club two years ago.
