Rail strikes are cancelled after new pay offer
NETWORK rail workers called off a planned strike yesterday after receiving a revised deal.
Workers were set to walk out for 24 hours on Thursday, followed by a two-day strike next week, after rejecting two pay deals. But commuters across the country can now breathe a sigh of relief after the strike was called off following of hours of talks with arbitration service Acas.
“After four days of intensive talks, Acas has helped Network Rail, RMT, TSSA and Unite formulate a set of revised proposals that the trades unions will now take away to consider,” said an Acas spokesperson.
“Following extensive Acas talks throughout the weekend RMT has now received a revised offer that enables us to suspend the planned industrial action while we consult in full on the details of the revised package with our Network Rail representatives,” said Mick Cash, general secretary of the RMT union.
Network rail chief Mark Carne said he hoped the new deal be accepted by the unions.
