WEAK CONSTRUCTION GROWTH IN EUROZONE May 18, 2011 MONTHLY construction figures for the Eurozone show that output fell 0.3 per cent in March this year, compared to a 0.8 per cent decrease in February. Compared with March 2010, output dropped by 4.9 per cent. Among the member states monitored, five showed a rise in construction output and seven reported a drop.

US mortgage applications rise May 18, 2011 Applications for US home mortgages jumped last week for the third week in a row as falling mortgage rates fuelled demand for refinancing. The Mortgage Bankers Association said that its seasonally adjusted index of mortgage application activity surged 7.8 per cent at the end of last week, the highest rate since early December.
Spanish economy beats forecasts May 18, 2011 The Spanish economy posted a 0.3 per cent rise in GDP from the previous quarter, just ahead of forecasts by the central bank of 0.2 per cent.
