Prince Harry off on South Pole trek for charity
PRINCE Harry will leave London on Sunday to battle icy winds and survive in temperatures of minus 40 degrees as he treks with a group of injured soldiers to the South Pole.
A far cry from the climate of Afghanistan – where Harry was based on deployment with the army earlier this year – the South Pole will see the young prince walk some 200 miles to the group’s destination, through some of the most inhospitable environments on earth.
The Walking With The Wounded group will raise awareness for injured service men and women, and raise money to help support them back into the workplace after serving in the armed forces.
“The cause is for one cause and one cause only and that is to raise awareness for all the wounded, sick and injured whether it’s in military life or whether it’s in civilian life,” said Harry yesterday at the launch of the expedition.
The Prince previously walked to the North Pole in 2011 and climbed Mount Everest in 2012, but this latest challenge Harry said will be “quite remarkable”.
