Premier League: Pellegrini won’t give up but City title bid rocked
LIVERPOOL 2 MANCHESTER CITY 1
MANCHESTER City manager Manuel Pellegrini insists his team can still retain the Premier League title despite suffering a major setback in their pursuit of Chelsea yesterday.
A brilliant curling winner from Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho, after Edin Dzeko had cancelled out Jordan Henderson’s equally fine opener for the home side, prevented City from closing the gap on the leaders.
It left Pellegrini’s men five points off the top but having played a game more, and looking over their shoulders at Arsenal, Manchester United and the Reds .
“I think we never give up about the title,” said the City manager. “It is more difficult when you have less games and you continue with the same points, but I don’t think the team can think about that.”
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, whose team climbed to fifth, called it “a brilliant result and an equally brilliant performance”.
