Premier League: Pardew admits fearing for his job before last-minute winner
NEWCASTLE UNITED 1 vs ASTON VILLA 0
RELIEVED Newcastle boss Alan Pardew admitted to fearing for his job until striker Loic Remy marked his return to the side with a 90th-minute winner against Aston Villa yesterday.
Victory eased the pressure on Pardew, whose job had come under increasing scrutiny following a run of four home defeats and just one win in nine.
“You can be very resilient as a manager, but I was uncomfortable for my staff this week,” he said.
“I was desperate to get them a result, and our fans, who have had to be very, very patient at home.”
Remy’s left-footed strike, which came just moments after he had hit a post with the goal gaping, was Newcastle’s first since his sending off against Norwich last month, and subsequent suspension.
