Premier League: Campbell leveller saves Pardew from embarrassing Magpies loss
CRYSTAL PALACE 1 NEWCASTLE UNITED 1
CRYSTAL Palace boss Alan Pardew declared himself satisfied with a point against his former club after substitute Fraizer Campbell salvaged a share of the spoils last night.
Newcastle opened the scoring with their first effort on target as Papiss Cisse nodded in Daryl Janmaat’s cross, only for Campbell – a first-half replacement for the injured Yaya Sanogo – to slide home Yannick Bolasie’s superb cross.
Palace are 13th in the Premier League having taken 10 points from a possible 15 since Pardew’s appointment in January, and sit just two positions behind Newcastle after being eight below the Magpies when the 53-year-old switched clubs.
“It was nice to see my old team and my friends from the club,” said Pardew. “We took a point and should be pretty pleased with that.
“We struggled to break them down but scored a great goal. It was a really special cross and we deserved to get something out of the game.”
