    June 4, 2015

Prime Minister David Cameron and mayor of London Boris Johnson were on hand in their high-vis suits yesterday for a Crossrail “break through” ceremony under Farringdon station. The ceremony marked the end of a three-year effort to dig tunnels for London’s forthcoming new Crossrail system. Johnson called the completion “a landmark event”.

  • Tunneling for Crossrail has finally finished – Boris Johnson and David Cameron were there for the big break through

    June 4, 2015

After three years of literally earth-moving work, tunneling for London's largest ever infrastructure project has finally finished – with a ceremony for the final "break through" under Farringdon station. David Cameron and Boris Johnson were there for the break through on the railway, which will run east to west through London when it opens in [...]

Essex commuters will be the first to benefit from London’s Crossrail train service, with fare cuts of up to 40 per cent introduced this weekend. Network Rail engineers have destroyed the Abbey Wood station as part of the Crossrail development that is expected to “transform services” in the local area.    The station was opened in May 1987 but it has been removed to make way for a “landmark” station being built by Network Rail. The new design includes a [...]

By the end of the year, it will add “residential [...]

  • Why Crossrail risks being London’s last major infrastructure project

    May 5, 2015

It is difficult to believe that it was half a decade ago that Liam Byrne – a Treasury minister in Gordon Brown’s government – left that infamous note for his successor. It apparently read, “Dear chief secretary, I’m afraid there is no money left… Good luck.” Of course, Byrne was only half right. Since 2010, [...]

  • Crossrail place to open today

    April 30, 2015

Today marks the opening of Crossrail Place at Canary Wharf, a seven storey structure designed by Foster & Partners, inspired by an old clipper that would have used the dock when it was a heaving maritime centre. Pictured above is the exotic roof garden, a public space created by landscape architects Gillespies which crowns the [...]
