Now for Europe, but we’ll be taking nothing for granted
WHILE it’s nice to receive plenty of plaudits for our winning start to the season, there isn’t one person in the Saracens camp taking anything for granted.
This weekend we take on Italian side Rovigo in our first European Challenge Cup action of the season, but you can be assured there will be no complacency when we take to the field on Sunday.
Once you start underestimating any side is the moment your own form suffers and we will be taking Rovigo very seriously at Vicarage Road.
EVER-PRESENT
Making his first start on Sunday will be a lad unknown to the statisticians but someone we hold in very high regard here at Saracens.
Nineteen-year-old fly-half Jake Sharp first put on a Saracens jersey as an Under-7 at Bramley Road but has developed into a top prospect with a beautiful kicking game and a fantastic turn of pace. He has been an ever-present for the Saracens Storm this season in taking them to the top of the A-League table, so this is a lad we feel is ready, and his call-up is a tribute to all the coaching staff who have aided his progression.
The club were also delighted to announce two more Premiership dates at Wembley yesterday following our successful game with Northampton earlier this season.
A crowd of over 44,000 saw us beat the Saints that day and, as a result, we now have additional matches against Worcester, on 13 February, and Harlequins, on 17 April, scheduled, while a one-off match with world champions South Africa has also been organised for 17 November.
Good times indeed.
