National Apprenticeship Week: The City’s best apprenticeships at Lloyds Bank, Barclays, RBS, Santander and HSBC
Looking for a job but don’t have a degree? It’s National Apprenticeship Week – and the City has got well and truly involved.
We’ve rounded up the best apprenticeships – the best bit is, you don’t even need a background in finance or banking.
Santander: Digital technology degree apprenticeship
Salary: £14,000 – £19,999 per annum
Duration: Four years
Requirements:

Predicted or achieved total of 260 UCAS points
What you’ll be doing:
Developing your technical and business skills and earning a degree as you work – all without expensive university fees. You’ll be preparing and delivering presentations, managing your own budgets and key stakeholders as well as developing industry-leading apps.
Barclays: Internal audit higher apprentice
Salary: Competitive, with potential to increase this in the second year
Duration: Three years
Requirements:

80 UCAS points (or predicted) 2017 onwards, or
-
200 UCAS points pre-2017, or
-
At least 12 months’ work experience
What you’ll be doing:
Developing your skills and knowledge by taking on a number of different roles, while studying towards highly-respected Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors IIA qualifications. You can expect to learn how to improve processes and controls as well as working in a wide range of areas including governance, risk management and control.

Lloyds: Customer service assistant apprentice
Salary: £19,701 – £21,890

What you’ll be doing:
Helping customers get the great service they deserve by greeting people at the welcome desk, serving them at the counter or at any other area of the branch. You’ll also receive training to help you develop knowledge of products and processes. If you are eligible, you’ll get the opportunity to gain an industry-recognised qualification working towards an intermediate apprenticeship in providing financial services.
RBS: Relationship Management Apprenticeship
Salary: £24,626

What you’ll be doing:
Working alongside either relationships managers, you’ll help them build client relationships. You’ll get to know customers’ needs and financial goals in order to support with a variety of service, credit, and other portfolio administration activities. You’ll also be handling queries either face to face or over the phone and support in effective implementation of credit and service processes.
HSBC: Global Markets Operations, Apprenticeship
Salary: N/A
Duration: 12 Months

Predicted or gained 300 UCAS points (or equivalent) and above

Qualifications in any subject but should have strong numeric skills and attention to detail

Maths and English GCSE at minimum grade C
What you’ll be doing:
You will receive structured exposure to functions such as risk and control, change and client services while working with colleagues to gain detailed product knowledge. This will develop your knowledge of global banking and markets, relevant products, systems and customers.
