Murray withdraws from Swiss event for end of season push
BRITAIN’S Andy Murray has pulled out from today’s Swiss Indoor event due to concerns over his back injury.
With the Paris Masters coming up at the end of the month, and the World Tour Finals commencing 5 November in London, the Scot is refusing to take any risks with what has been a complaint on more than one occasion this year.
World No2 Novak Djokovic, who beat Murray in Shanghai a little over a week ago, has also withdrawn from the tournament which begins today.
Local favourite Roger Federer is top seed for the event, and begins his defence today against Jeremy Chardy of France.
Meanwhile, Murray’s compatriot Heather Watson said yesterday that she was disappointed that he chose Laura Robson ahead of her as his partner for the London Olympic Games’ mixed doubles, in which the pair won silver.
“It was the Olympics. I think anyone in my position would have wanted that opportunity. But it was his decision. It’s made me stronger,” Watson said.
