Moyes hopeful United fans are prepared to play waiting game
MANCHESTER United manager David Moyes has pleaded for patience from the club’s fans when it comes to assessing his performance in the Old Trafford hot-seat next season.
Moyes formally succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson less than a month ago and has endured indifferent fortunes on the pitch since, with just his second win in five pre-season friendlies coming with yesterday’s 5-2 thrashing of Hong Kong First Division side Kitchee FC.
But Moyes views his job at United as a long-term project and hopes the fans share his vision.
“As a manager you don’t get given time. All you can ever do is hope people have common sense and see where you are trying to go and what you are trying to do,” said the former Preston and Everton boss.
“If you win one game folk will think you’re good. If you lose one folk will think you’re rubbish.
“You hope there’s a little bit of sense and people understand where you are going.”
Moyes has also, thus far, been frustrated in the transfer market, specifically in his attempt to sign Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
However, the 50-year-old is confident he can strengthen his squad before the transfer window shuts on 2 September.
“Ideally, you would get your signings done early,” he added. “But for different reasons it has not been possible to get them done at this moment in time.
“But I am confident we will get them done.”
