Mourinho, Faria and Ramires to answer FA misconduct charges
THE FOOTBALL Association yesterday hit Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho with his second misconduct charge of the month, while assistant manager Rui Faria and midfielder Ramires are also set to feel the governing body’s wrath.
Mourinho “questioned the integrity” of referees’ chief Mike Riley and match official Mike Dean following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland, Faria was sent to the stands for venting his anger after a penalty was awarded against his team and Ramires was deemed to have swung an elbow at Seb Larsson.
The Portuguese boss, who has until 6pm on Monday to respond to the charge, said on Saturday: “I want to congratulate Mike Dean. His performance was unbelievable and when referees have unbelievable performances it’s fair that as managers we give them praise.
“He came here with one objective, to make a fantastic performance, and he did that. Congratulations also to Mike Riley. What they are doing through the whole season is fantastic.”
An £8,000 fine is already hanging over Mourinho, who was also warned of his future conduct after entering the pitch at Villa Park earlier this month to remonstrate with referee Chris Foy and was fined the same amount in October after criticising what he believed to be excessive time-wasting by Cardiff.
Ramires is facing a four-match ban having also been sent off in the defeat to Aston Villa and has until 6pm tonight to lodge an appeal against his violent conduct charge.
Faria’s case has been designated “non-standard” by the FA, after he was accused of using “abusive and/or insulting words” toward fourth official Phil Dowd as well as aggressive behaviour amounting to “improper conduct” before being sent to the stands by Dean.
