MICHAEL JACKSON 1958-2009
MICHAEL Jackson, the troubled King of Pop, died at the age of 50, after collapsing at his Los Angeles home with a suspected heart attack yesterday.
The singer, who dominated the world of pop music for four decades, was found not breathing and immediately rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead after efforts to resuscitate him failed.
Crowds were last night gathering to pay tribute outside the UCLA medical centre, where Jackson died.
He had been due to begin a heavily oversubscribed comeback tour in the UK at the O2 Arena on 13 July, but rumours had gathered pace in recent weeks that he was suffering serious health problems, after four of his tour dates were cancelled.
The reclusive star achieved global stardom with dancefloor classics such as “Bad” and “Billie Jean” and still holds the record for the biggest-selling album ever with “Thriller”, which has sold 59m copies worldwide.
