MG doubles its 2013 sales in five months to sprint to new record
MG has roared ahead to double 2013’s sales in the first five months of the year.
The Midlands-based car manufacturer announced its bestever first quarter and also best sales year so far, surpassing 2012 where 782 units were sold.
The iconic marque, which celebrates its 90th year this year, has sold 1,008 vehicles in the first five months of 2014, compared to 514 throughout last year.
MG attributed the rise to the recent launch of the MG3 supermini and expansion of the MG6 diesel powertrain family.
The car maker said its dealer network is also flourishing, with 20 new sites in the last seven months.
Although modern MGs are designed, engineered and assembled at the firm’s historic home in Longbridge, Birmingham, the company is now owned by Chinese automotive giant SAIC Motor.
