Mediaset in a takeover bid for Endemol
MEDIASET, the media empire owned by former Italian leader Silvio Berlusconi, yesterday confirmed it has made a joint bid for TV producer Endemol.
The company has made a joint bid with Clessidra, an Italian asset manager.
Pier Silvio Berlusconi, the ex-Italian PM’s son and Mediaset chairman, told reporters yesterday that the two firms had put forward a joint bid.
Mediaset already owns around a third of Endemol, which makes programmes such as Big Brother, Deal or No Deal and Home and Away.
Endemol works with around 300 broadcasters worldwide, but is heavily indebted. Goldman Sachs and investment boutique Cyrte also have stakes in the firm.
Time Warner put forward a takeover offer earlier this month, but was rebuffed by Endemol and its lenders.
