McDowell on song in Wales
GOLF: Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell returned to the Celtic Manor yesterday and made a strong start to the defence of his Wales Open title. McDowell shot a four under par that left him in joint-third spot, behind leader Keith Horne of South Africa, who shot 64. “It’s a tough second shot past my statue there,” joked McDowell about the 499-yard 16th, scene of the most important birdie he has ever made at last October’s Ryder Cup. “I hit it to about 20 feet and thought I made it, but I guess I’ve used all my magic up on that green.”
