Married British couple ready to take badminton world by storm
NEWLYWEDS Chris Adcock and Gabby White have emerged as contenders to challenge for badminton gold at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The duo, who married in August, cemented their place at next month’s Superseries grand final in Malaysia – which will test their medal-winning credentials for England next summer – with victory in the Hong Kong Open mixed doubles final this week.
It was the first English success at a leading World Federation event in more than four years.
Adcock, 24, and White, 23, were ordered to play apart from 2010 after previously winning world junior silver, but since reuniting have climbed to fifth in the world rankings. They will hope to eventually emulate Dorothy and Cyril Wright, the last British couple to win Olympic gold in 1920.
