Malaysia Airlines has banned checked luggage to London, Paris and Amsterdam because of strong winds
Malaysia Airlines has told passengers they are not able to take on checked in luggage for flights to London, Paris and Amsterdam because of "temporary unseasonably strong head winds".
Instead of their usual allowance, those flying economy will be able to take just one piece of luggage weighing seven kilos while business and first class passengers can take two pieces weighing up to 14kg.
"Passengers who wish to check in their luggage will be able to do so, however their baggage will only arrive later," Malaysia Airlines said.
The troubled airline group announced today that the ban, which was "in the interest of safety", would be imposed from tonight (5 January) until further notice.
"Malaysia Airlines regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers and will deliver stranded baggage as soon as the situation permits… Malaysia Airlines will continue to assess the changing situation over the region and will update passengers when operations are back to normal.
"Safety remains the centre of the airline’s operations."
