London Fashion Week retains its young counterculture edge that rivals lack
London Fashion Week remains in full swing over the next few days as designers say the capital’s strong youth culture still gives the event an edge that rivals like Milan, New York and Paris lack.
US designer John Rocha who showed off his latest designs in London over the weekend, said: “There is a great energy in London from young people, established people – and it isn’t just fashion , it is music, movies, restaurants. To be part of this movement is great.”
The week was opened last Friday by the Prime Minister’s wife Sarah Brown, and closes on Wednesday.
However, there are still many big names to show their latest creations. Nicole Farhi, Paul Smith, Jaeger, Pringle, Topman and Gieves & Hawkes will all present their wares on catwalks around the capital this week. However, the death of British designer Alexander McQueen earlier this month, has overshadowed the event.
At the opening event former M&S chief executive Sir Stuart Rose left a note saying McQueen’s was a “great talent that will not be forgotten”.
