Lenovo cedes ground to Apple in its native China
APPLE’S sales have taken over those of Lenovo in China for the first time.
As the third-largest personal computer company in the world by shipment volume, the Chinese firm holds the top spot as the industry’s fastest-growing firm for the seventh quarter consecutively.
It announced yesterday that its China sales rose 23.4 per cent to $2.8bn (£1.7bn), compared to Apple’s second quarter sales of $3.8bn, six times the last year’s figure. Lenovo saw total revenue rise 15 per cent in the second quarter to a record $5.9bn.
Analysts said that Lenovo would need to have increased sales in Taiwan and Hong Kong by at least $1bn to match Apple’s revenues for the region. Despite a four per cent overall decline in the market, Lenovo saw success in the US, with shipments rising 30.8 per cent from a year ago, when the firm made losses of $9m in the US.
