Lavelle’s Jack is looking for a Crack at the big time
CRACK AWAY JACK goes under the microscope at Sandown tomorrow as he looks to justify his favouritism for the Arkle on his eagerly-awaited chasing debut.
The Emma Lavelle-trained five-year-old is many bookies’ fancy for the Cheltenham showdown in March after a fine fourth-place finish in last season’s Champion Hurdle.
But with Lavelle opting to duck other options at Kempton and Exeter this week, all eyes will be on Jack to put on a show in his first public foray over the fences.
Lavelle said: “He was very casual over his hurdles at home so we always used to pop him over fences for that reason. He’s pretty experienced at jumping them, he just has to do it in public now.”
Jack is one of many headline acts at Sandown’s fourth Gentleman’s Day to celebrate the first day of the new jump season at the Surrey track.
Aside from a top-class race card, various male pursuits such as a fun casino, grooming stables, live music and a best-dressed competition are on display.
