Kickstarter funds temporary Temple
A CROWDFUNDING-backed art project by Burning Man artist David Best lit up the skies of Northern Ireland yesterday after investors helped to raise more than £30,000 last year to fund the project. Temple, as the timber installation is called, was partially funded through popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter. The installation is the brainchild of Best and the Artichoke Trust, a London-based arts charity. Best is a renowned sculptor closely aligned with the famous Burning Man art festival in the US. More than 600 backers pledged £30,840 last October to back the Temple event on Kickstarter, which is known for generating huge sums for projects such as the Pebble watch, which raised £9.7m earlier this month. But art lovers keen to visit the Temple, based in Derry, had better get in quick – it is set to be burnt to the ground on Saturday night to mark a dramatic climax to the week-long art event.
