Kesa lifted by World Cup TV sales
Electricals retailer Kesa beat forecasts for first-quarter sales, with trade boosted by robust demand for TVs in the run-up to the World Cup and more sales over the internet.
“After a positive first quarter we still anticipate that our markets will remain challenging for the remainder of this financial year,” the firm said.
Kesa which runs market leader Darty in France and Comet in the UK, said sales at stores open over a year rose 4.3 per cent in the three months to 31 July.
That compares with analysts’ consensus forecast of growth of two per cent, according to a company poll.
Like-for-like sales at Darty France increased 5.1 percent and were up 4.3 per cent at Comet.
Underlying sales at Kesa’s other established businesses division, including operations in Holland and Belgium, rose 1.1 per cent.
Shares in Kesa have risen by nearly a quarter over the last three months
