Injury scare for Derby fave Carlton
THE QUEEN’S Carlton House, the favourite for the Investec Derby, remains poised for Saturday’s Epsom classic despite an injury scare.
The colt was sent for X-rays yesterday after concerns were raised following a workout on Sunday, but is still expected to take part in the world’s most famous flat race.
Her Majesty’s racing manager John Warren said: “Following a routine canter [on Sunday], Carlton House was found to have a small amount of filling in his near-fore joint at evening stables last night.
“As a result precautionary X-rays were taken this morning [yesterday] which revealed no abnormalities and we remain hopeful that he is on target for the Investec Derby on Saturday.”
Carlton House has been the bookmakers’ favourite for the race since impressing at the Dante Stakes at York three weeks ago. The setback saw him drift to 3-1 on betting exchanges at one point yesterday.
