Hyperloop just came another step closer: MIT students win design competition for Elon Musk’s transport pods
The designers of a new transport system that could carry people hundreds of miles within minutes have been revealed.
The competition to build pods for Elon Musk's Hyperloop was won by a team of students from top US technology university MIT.
Teams from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Virginia Tech and University of California Irvine, were also honoured for their designs.
The winners, runners up, and another 18 teams will go on to build their prototype designs for the Hyperloop test track in California over the summer. They were chosen from more than 115 teams which spent the weekend demonstrating their designs.
Musk has ambitious plans for Hyperloop to be in action by 2020. It will carry people at speeds of more than 300 miles per hour, reducing travel times.
