“Huge” gas leak in Penge, south east London leads to hundreds being evacuated
Hundreds of residents were evacuated from their homes in south east London following a major gas leak in the area.
Police, fire and ambulance services attended the scene in Penge late on Saturday night and people were advised to avoid the area.
Around 200 residents near the leak on Queen Adelaide Road and Penge Lane were evacuated to four reception centres overnight.

People started returning to their homes at around 5am and the all-clear was given at arounf 7am.
