House of Commons sitting suspended due to water leak
A leaking roof has forced House of Commons sitting to be suspended.
The Commons is set to be closed for the rest of Thursday, although the House of Lords will remain open to debate the latest Brexit developments.
A cafe located two floors above the press gallery section of the Commons is also closed due to the leak.
Members of parliament's maintenance team were seen heading into the press gallery with buckets in a bid to stop the water damaging the furnishings.
Labour MP Justin Madders tweeted: "In the Commons Chamber and can hear rain dripping in through the roof, Parliament really is broken."
Julia Lopez, a Conservative MP, wrote on Twitter: "In the Chamber for the loan charge debate. A very noisy torrent of water coming in from the ceiling – is this a Biblical flood coming to wash us all away?"
A spokesperson for the House of Commons said: “The leak was urgently dealt with and has now been isolated.
"The House of Commons maintenance team is currently assessing the damage."
