Hodgson entitled to be angry if we don’t win it, says Wilshere
ENGLAND midfielder Jack Wilshere hopes to avoid being on the end of one of manager Roy Hodgson’s tongue-lashings this summer and help his team win the World Cup.
With 15 caps, Wilshere is one of several members of the squad with relatively little international experience.
But the 22-year-old insists that will not stop Hodgson from expecting high standards.
“He can lose it a little bit, but if someone is not doing what he is telling them, he has got every right to do that,” said Wilshere. “We are going to a tournament and we are not going to say we are happy with the semis. We are going there to win it. We want to make the country proud.”
Wilshere is slowly recovering from a broken foot suffered during England’s win over Denmark in March and is set to play some part in tomorrow’s home friendly with Peru.
The Arsenal man though, has no doubt he will be fully fit come England’s World Cup opener against Italy on 14 June.
“I am at the stage now where I just need a few games,” added Wilshere. “I have been training for six weeks and I had 30 minutes at Norwich and the last 15 at Wembley [FA Cup final]. I am fresh, I’m feeling good.”
