Hodgson drops hint over Kane’s first senior international call-up
ENGLAND boss Roy Hodgson last night gave a strong indication that Tottenham’s hotshot striker Harry Kane will be included in his squad for next month’s Euro2016 qualifier against Lithuania and friendly with Italy.
Kane’s strike against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday took his tally for the season to 23 goals in 35 matches, while the 21-year-old is currently the joint-leading English scorer in the top-flight, level with QPR’s Charlie Austin on 13.
Kane was handed his Premier League debut in March 2014 and netted his first top-flight strike against Aston Villa in November, but has scored 11 in his last 10 league outings, a strike rate which has triggered the focus of Hodgson.
“Is he worth a place in the squad now? Of course he is,” said Hodgson. “We bought a lot of young players in during my time, we had Saido Berahino in the last squad. Kane certainly deserves a place in the squad as much as say Saido did.
“Is he worthy of a place like Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge? That’s something he’ll have to prove. But unless I give him a chance in the squad he’ll never get a chance to prove that. If you can be a star at a top team like Spurs at the age of 21 then you’re doing pretty well.”
