Hero Hodgson admits to Sarries try concerns
FLY-HALF Charlie Hodgson single-handedly led Saracens to a 28-23 Aviva Premiership victory against London Welsh yesterday but insists everyone at the club – including himself – is striving for more.
Hodgson scored all of Saracens’ points at the Kassam Stadium, beating his previous record of 27 in a Sale shirt more than a decade ago, including Sarries’ first try for four games. In contrast their hosts crossed twice though Phil MacKenzie and Tom Arscott – Gavin Henson adding 13 points with his boot on his London Welsh debut – and Hodgson admits the try drought is dogging the Saracens camp.
“We played some good stuff and it’s about finishing the chances we get. It’s something we’re always striving to work on and get better at,” he said. “It’s not easy though. Things like that don’t come overnight but hopefully we get presented with more opportunities in the next few weeks to work on it.”
Elsewhere London Wasps survived a late Worcester Warriors rally to record a 10-6 victory at Adams Park, prop Simon McIntyre scoring his first Aviva Premiership try.
On Saturday London Irish emphatically ended Northampton Saints’ perfect Premiership record with a shock 39-17 victory, while reigning champions Harlequins’ title defence hit the buffers for the second straight game as they slipped to a 42-28 defeat to Exeter Chiefs.
