Henson could face England
WALES and Saracens centre Gavin Henson is being tipped to make a sensational return to the Test arena in the Six Nations opener against England.
The talented back has not played a competitive match since March, having taken time away from the game and then enjoyed a stint on television’s Strictly Come Dancing.
But Henson is set to make his Saracens debut this month, having signed a short-term deal with the Hertfordshire-based outfit, and has made no secret of his ambition to win back his Wales place.
And Welsh great Phil Bennett believes an injury to first-choice fly-half Stephen Jones could pave the way for the former Ospreys man to be handed a first international start since the 2009 Six Nations. “I said a few weeks ago, when he was still on Strictly Come Dancing, it wouldn’t surprise me if Gavin makes his comeback for Wales against England,” said Bennett.
“And they all laughed at me! But stranger things have happened and let’s keep on with this story. I don’t know, he could be playing No10 for Wales against England.”
Jones faces four weeks on the sidelines after damaging knee ligaments playing for Scarlets last weekend.
